Paddling as fast as I can

The calendar was spinning. Things fell off and I tried to put them back on, but they jumped out of my reach: part one of a wretched dream. I went back to sleep and was doing dishes at the sink – which morphed into a bathtub, but the water wouldn’t shut off, so it was soon running over and I couldn’t find the plug to pull. Yikes. Any analysis out there? It was not a restful night’s sleep.

In anticipation of a long road trip this summer, and 130,000 miles on my car, I spent a few hours at the dealership getting ‘old reliable’ ready to do another 130,000. She now has a new engine filter, rear brakes, fluids, and belts. I hate car shopping. I really don’t like driving new cars — makes me nervous — so my philosophy is to take good care of the one I have. I admit, she is getting rather scratched, and both fog lights are long gone, but other than that and the stains on the floor, she is wonderful, well used and wonderful. She has taken me to a lot of National Parks, and I hope we get to a lot more.

My new paddle came. It is so light weight. I can’t wait to try it out. My kayaking girlfriend and I set a date to put my new kayak in the water. I can’t wait for that either. I admit to being a little nervous about putting the kayak on top of the car and going long distances, but doing it is the only way to get good at it – or getting over being nervous – so that is what I’m going to do. The kayak is going with me on this summer’s road trip, so I’ve got to get some practice in. If it ever stops snowing!
