2015 is going out with a bang. Horrible weather and resulting deaths in parts of the country. Flooding, tornadoes, ice storms, fires, freezing temperatures, you name it, the country has it somewhere. I am in the midst of adding insulation to my attic and sealing all of the air gaps around light fixtures and other openings up there. And then there is that sad task of taking down all of the Christmas decorations. I for one am looking forward to 2016!
In three weeks, my mother turns 96 years old. She rallied back after the scare she gave us last spring, partly due, I’m sure, to the fact that another great-grandchild was on the way. It is amazing how a person can keep on keeping on when they have motivation. There are changes in her personality that are hard to accept, but then I remember, you’ve earned a pass when you get to be her age, surviving so long. Mom still lives at home, and has been in that house for 56 years. It’s quite amazing that four generations of the same family have memories in that house.
I noticed we had a big heat wave this morning. It was 7 degrees instead of zero like yesterday. Although I got my first gardening catalog for the new year in the mail already, we’ve got a ways to go till spring, I suppose. In light of that, I began working on one of the puzzles my kids gave me for a Christmas present. They know I am addicted to jigsaw puzzles. I can’t go by it without stopping and looking. I have to tell myself just one, and then I have to go on to what it is I really should be doing. Well, maybe just two.
So Happy New Year everyone. I hope you have good health, and lots of hugs in the coming months to keep you warm.
and so the year has gone…
