How did we come by the name Super Bowl for the biggest sporting event in the US? Is it because stadiums look like giant bowls? Bowl games. Why not Super Platter? According to the number of chicken wings devoured on Super Bowl Sunday, not to mention the gallons of salsa, pounds of chips, and cases of beer, we need more than just a bowl. Diets and fitness definitely take a holiday on the first Sunday in February – and you know what – that’s okay. We need something to pass the time until spring (unless you ski).
For those of you who aren’t huge football fans – including me – the first day in Sunday is a great day to clean house and peruse the catalogs for must-have items for the garden. I have found over the years that when I switch on a game, the team I am rooting for immediately turns over the ball and the other team scores. It is far safer for me to check the score and then quickly switch to another channel or to a book. Since my home-state team was not playing in yesterday’s game, I got to actually watch the commercials. I mean, that’s what we really watch the game for, right?
I hope your team won and at the very least – you had a fun day with family and friends, didn’t spill too much food on the carpet, and are ready to get back on the treadmill. Here’s looking forward to the Final Four!
