So, how do you feel when you’ve fallen in a hole and can’t find a way out? You know what I mean, that depression or sadness that creeps up at times and sucks us in. Sometimes it is triggered by an occurrence, or sometimes it comes as the low after we’ve had a great time.
I’d like to encourage you to do a couple of things. One is to look around. I guarantee you can find someone worse off than you. Now, get out a piece of paper and write down your blessings. Let me jump down in that hole with you, I have paper, and we’ll write a list of things you maybe haven’t thought about in a while. Come on, take my hand, I know the way out of this hole. Now turn around and offer your hand to the guy below you. Did you see what just happened? We became a chain. Chains are strong. We became a human chain of strength and love and caring and together we can do great things. That’s what volunteers do and it makes them feel good. Try volunteering. There are countless organizations that could use you but there are simple things too, like picking up trash on your road, recycling, reading to an elderly neighbor who can’t see very well anymore, or getting groceries for them. They’ll love you for it, but believe me, you’ll get more out of it than they will. Volunteers make the world a pretty cool place.
